I had such a fun time going to the World Ag Expo this year! I watched a few different panels that the WET Center was a part of, and then we explored the show. I had a hard time not stopping and exploring every booth and piece of interesting technology, but I learned a lot, and I am so glad I went. The WET Center hosted a fireside chat with two founders who have gone through our Valley Ventures program about the challenges and advantages entrepreneurs in Ag Tech and the Central Valley will likely face. Then, our executive director, Eric Hadden, was featured on a panel talking about the Regional Food Business Centers initiative, and he gave an overview of our Culinary Catalyst program.
I was really glad to go to both of the panels we were featured in because it gave me a better understanding of what we do here. In hearing Waldo and Joseph talk about their experiences in starting companies and the challenges they faced in getting off the ground, I was able to get a much fuller picture of what the businesses that go through or doors go through. I got to see how we can come alongside them and add real value. Then, I got to hear all about the Culinary Catalyst program and the overarching program that is running through Fresno State, The Regional Food Business Center, and how we are working to create a framework through numerous programs and institutions on campus to help build up small businesses throughout the farm-to-table pipeline.
After the panels, we explored the show for a while and saw some of the amazing businesses that came to the show. I got the chance to take way too many pictures, so I have included a little slideshow of some of my favorite ones. We got to see a few old friends from the Valley Ventures Program, Eco2Mix, and WiseConn, and we got to explore a few new stalls from businesses that we haven’t worked with before, such as Eno Scientific and Hydraulic Controls, Inc.

I had an incredible experience, and I’m so glad I was able to attend. This was my first foray into the world of agriculture. Did you get a chance to go? If you did, what was your favorite part of the show, and what should I see next year?
